The Grub House Restaurant – International City, Dubai

This restaurant is not just any restaurant but the dream of a passionate foodie Mrs. Risha. She gave up her successful corporate career in the shipping industry to peruse her passion of having her own restaurant. Her husband Santosh has been her support throughout. Both hail from Karnataka a Southern State in India.

Surprisingly, though they are from the South, their restaurant serves delicious North Indian and Indo Chinese delicacies. A caption at the entrance of the restaurant says “Apna Desi Ghar” meaning our country home. The idea is to serve home like food to the expatriate community. While a person is eating food at the restaurant, he not only gets a treat of home like food but also spends a few nostalgic moments reminding him of home.

I had gone there for lunch with my family. The restaurant is located in the Persia Cluster of International city. We were greeted warmly by the owners and the staff. It is has limited seating capacity. The menu is priced well, it is value for money. For the quality of food they serve it is definitely worth it. It is popular among the families as well as the student community residing nearby. They restaurant seems to be very popular, the place was full, we had to wait a few minutes to get a table. They deliver food too. That keeps them busy all the days of the week.

For starters we had the Crispy Chicken. An Indo-Chinese dish. My kids loved it. In the mean while we were also served with onion salad, cucumber and carrot salad and papads.

We then had the Tandoori Kebab Platter which consisted of Chicken sheek Kebab, Mutton Sheek Kebab, fish kebab and chicken tikka. The spice levels were a bit higher but the kebabs were very tasty and juicy.

We then had Butter Chicken and Matka Chicken (a mix of chicken pieces and sheek kebabs garnished with egg) The matka chicken was different, we liked both the gravies. We had that with Garlic Naan and Tandoori rotis.

We also tried the Mutton Dum Biryani. This too was tasty. We saw it on most of the tables. Seem to be a popular among their customers.

Along with the food we had Lemon Mint Cooler, Chaas and Sweet Lassi to drink. All the drinks were good. But the lemon mint cooler was a hit.

We ended with the two most popular desserts Gulab Jamoon and Kulfi. Both tasted good. I am a fan of kulfi, so I give it full marks.

The over all experience was very good. Portions are generous. Prices are reasonable. Service is very good. It is a must try for Indian sub continent food lovers.
