Soy to Chutney – Bay Square, Business Bay, Dubai

I had been to the Bay Square branch of Soy to Chutney for dinner. The first branch was started in 2010 in the international city and in January 2016 they started this second branch in business bay.

This is a family venture started by a veteran of the hospitality industry Mr. Sunil Marya. He is an alumni of the Institute of Hotel Management, Pusa, New Delhi. In the past 38 years of him being in the industry, he has been associated with prestigious hotel brands in India and UAE, like the Taj Mahal Intercontinental, Kempinski, Raheja Hotel Group in Mumbai, the Golden Tulip and Savoy & Marco Polo Group in UAE.

Mr. Marya’s daughter, Ms. Gitika an entrepreneur, is the head of this branch.  And an excellent hostess too.

The restaurant is tucked away in a cozy silent corner of the bay square. A casual dining joint serving tapas styles Indian and indo-Chinese cuisine. Contemporary interiors having a comfortable seating out doors too. Some thing that caught my attention was a board that said wastage on the plate will attract a fine of AED 5, which will go as donation to Dubai Cares.

Since, we were fasting, we broke our fast with dates, rooh hafza and orange juice.

We preferred to have more of the Indian dishes.

While we placed our orders we were served Papads and an assortment chutneys.

For starters we had Malai Prawns which was carefully grilled in a marinade of Cheese and Cream and Papdi Chaat. The chaat was a bit of a surprise, I did not expect it to be so good here.

I like to experiment with my food, so for mains we  had the Chinese Kungpao Burnt Chillies with Garlic Naan. If you have not tried this combination, then I suggest you try it, you will not regret. The Chicken Kungpao was very tasty. Perfect spice levels to relish the dish.

They we tried the Chicken Tikka Biryani. Perfectly cooked and served in a ceramic pot. Yogurt raita was served in the side.

For deserts we had Kulfi and a newly innovated dish; Gajar Halwa Spring Rolls with Vanilla Ice cream. I loved it. Some thing unique. I had the kadak chai in the end. Awesome tea.

The over all experience was very good. The prices are reasonable for the kind of food they serve, ambiance and location. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
